So what you are showing is the silence at the beginning of a sound font sample? Interesting. What sample is it?

As I recall, sound fonts do not necessarily use the start of the sample. I think they set times where the looped portion starts and stops. I think there is an option to use the sampled attack and/or decay as an alternative to specifying an ADSR (attack, decay, sustain, release) envelop that is applied to the steady state looped portion.

Hi Jim,
Sample with longer silence was from Allman_SymphIV_4CHj.sf2. Since it is stereo, the default PAN
settings within Miditzer may be choosing the wrong side of the L/R sample also.
Many many of Alman's samples are like that. But it can be easily fixed by truncating the silent portion. Then the sample will only follow the "envelop" ((attack, sustain loop and release) pattern.

If someone persons says he has no "delayed sound" problem, he could be using Bruce Miles's bundled soundfont so it is best he clarifies that.
If someone complains of delayed sound or loss of notes while playing fast with 1/16 notes or 1/32 notes, he could be using part or all of Allman_SymphIV_4CHj.sf2

Best Regards

Thanks for the detailed writeup of your settings for reducing latency. I'd like to hear other people's experiences in using this guide. If it works for a large number of people then it would be something good to post in a more prominent location.

Proven alternative synthesizer solution using 2x (freeware) VSTi will solve the delayed sound issue and also provide multichannel Audio with multichannel reverb etc..

does anyone think a sound card upgrade might help with latency? what should I look for spec wise?

The only way that I would expect a sound card upgrade to make a dramatic difference is if it provides hardware synthesis for the sound font. But that will open up a different set of issues.

Perhaps you should try Graham Wykes' Miditzer Quartet Linux CD. Not having Windows in the way might be a big help.
