Meditation from Thais MIDI file.

Post by moonskin » Mon Jul 22, 2013 9:07 am

Two questions...

What license is the Meditation from Thais MIDI file that accompanies the Miditzer download released under?

Are there any other files of this type (ie tranferred rolls) available that could be adapted to Miditzer?
Cheers
Graham

I'm aware of at least 150 or so MIDI files scanned from Wurlitzer R rolls. There may be more out there. There is an active roll scanning community that has scanned a lot of different roll types besides the commonly available 88 note piano rolls.

Meditation is obviously public domain as far as the composer's rights. I don't believe the roll is protected by copyright either as I don't know who would have had an interest in renewing any copyrights that might have existed. So, to the best of my knowledge, that file is completely public domain. There is a fairly large library of rolls that were recorded for use on Wurlitzer residence player organs, all of which could be adapted to the Miditzer. I think a fair number of those might still be under copyright with regard to the composition. Most of the roll performances I've heard seem rather bland, probably reflecting what was considered appropriate for a residence of the time.

Interesting. I haven't been able to find any. Any pointers?

Hmmm, now that I've spent a bit of time looking for these, here are some sites to browse:

http://www.midimusic.org.uk/wurlitzer/index.html

http://members.shaw.ca/Talia122/batch26.htm

http://members.shaw.ca/smythe/archive.htm

Mostly Band organ related, but could be fun ;)

Kind regards,
