a pair of m-Audio 61es boards

Post by silentfilmmusic » Tue Nov 29, 2011 10:23 pm

Am trying to work with a set-up using two M-audio 61es keyboards (Mtz 216). In Miditzer Settings, they both show up with identical names. Any suggestions for telling which one is which? I don't want to have to figure it out by trial and error every time I set up. Is there an order they get loaded based on midi channel number or position in the USB hub?

Am tryng to graduate to this for my home/portable rig instead of toting a single 76-key keyboard that's split in the middle.

Thanks.

Ben

I have 2 M-audio Oxygen 61 Silver.
One keyboard has to be connected thru MIDI-OUT port (will need AC adopter too) using Roland UM-One.
Could not connect both m-audio keyboards via USB as they will have the same name. If you always load them in sequence, you can use them but must be set up everytime.

Buy boards with MIDI-OUT port always or buy 2nd keyboard from another brand.

Hi Ben,

I had the same issue earlier this year with Acorn midi controller keyboards. After exhausting other possibilities, I ended up removing the top casing, removing the top two PCBs and removing the keys and key contact PCBs to get to the solder points on the other side. I then removed the diodes and soldered new wires to the key contacts. The other end of these wires were connected to a 16-wire ribbon cable with a suitable connector at the other end to match the Midi-Boutrique midi encoder. From there, a Midi-USB cable connected the encoder to the USB port on the PC mother board I had installed in back of the Conn's console.

Hope the attached is of some use to you.

I think if you buy a cheap MIDI USB hub, plug the keyboards into it and then the hub into the PC using the same port each time the identification should be stable. Plug the keyboards into the hub first.

Hi Guys,
I also had tried a midi-USB hub but it made no difference in my case to differentiating between the identical keyboards so I ended up having to scrap the hub idea.

To differentiate the two, plug in one first, set it up then plug in and set up the second one

Hey guys,

I recently bought a Samson Carbon 61 and didn't enjoy the overall feel of the keyboard. Velocities are bad, keys are not good either.
I have a M-Audio Oxygen 49 and love the feeling of the keys and its velocity curves.
Do you think M-Audio Keystation 61es (which is a little less advanced than Oxygen series) has the same overall quality? I'm seriously thinking about selling my Carbon and getting this M-Audio one. I can't find it to buy in my town, so I'll have to order online. http://www.crmsoftwaremonday.vip/

I don't have any experience with any of the m-Audio keyboards. My thought is that the Oxygen 61 MK IV is more likely to match your Oxygen 49 than the Keystation 61es. Can you order one or both of these from a place that has a good return policy? Even if someone says they like the keyboard, you may not agree. I find that opinions about the feeling of a keyboard are intensely personal things.

Do read this entire thread. It seems that there may be an issue with identifying the keyboards when two Oxygen keyboards are connected. But maybe you'll be OK if you use a 61 and 49 together?
