Hello Keith,
Welcome to the forum! The soundfonts are "instructions" for your synthesizer. A software synth called "Fluidsynth" comes as an integral part of Miditzer, as does a default soundfont. If you'll look in your Miditzer directory, you'll see a file called "Miditzer.sf2" at slightly over 4K in size. That's the default soundfont and contains all the instructions to Fluidsynth to tell it what sound to produce when you select a stop or stops on the organ, and then press a key.
There are several soundfonts available that will work with Miditzer. You can use other soundfonts, but I'd suggest sticking with the default until you become more comfortable with Miditzer.
Soundfonts won't mess with your computer or mess up other midi files or mp3's.
I would suggest spending some time reading the posts on the forum, particularly under the "Working with Soundfonts" topic. You'll find more details there.
Regards,
Tony

I realize that that is just a typo. Miditzer.sf2 is actually just over 4 *megabytes* in size.
Miditzer.sf2 is a derivative of the soundfonts created by Bruce Miles and explicitly tailored to work with Fluidsynth and Miditzer. The McMurray fonts are another theatre organ soundfont. If you know the structure of the McMurray fonts they can be used with/in addition to the Miditzer fonts if I understand correctly.

If you have hardware or software that uses soundfonts there is the concept of a 'bank'. As long as you don't try to load a soundfont into a bank that already has a soundfont loaded you should not have any problems.

trouble.
i don't know how to play music. i love the organs as eugene h, knows. i got to his site years ago but never understood soundfonts. i wanted to hear what the organ sounded like on your files when you make them so i got the fonts. added them in to the dls folder for my santa cruz turtle beach sound card.
they do work if i use the ones from mcmury. but when i reboot the computer i loose my sound card drivers and have to reinstall them. if i change to the default dls for the sound card nothing happens when i reboot, the system is fine.
i put the sound fonts in from the virtualorgan page and use them. after some time of playing the sound control for the santa cruz turtle beach card that stays in the system tray, acts up and takes off in cpu cycles all the way up to 100% which boggs down the system and then crashes my sound card drivers again?
i don't get it? the sound fonts sound wonderful when they dont crash? but the same fonts don't cause any trouble at all when i use them in the old win98 computer with the sound blaster card, i load them in its sound font folder and which it uses .sf2 files not the default dls files like the santa cruz card. but i restart the windows 98 by timers in the task scheduler as it is my jukebox and it has no trouble rebooting or restarting, it does it just fine. and the sound coming from the organs on that sound blaster is well put it this way i thought i was in the fox theater. , that could be for the reason i send the sound through a personel fm transmitter to my home stereo unit and play it on my huge 300 watt sub woofers and the high tweeter speakers. but wow
you guys that made the songs are great. just if i can now get the fonts to work in the windows xp pro?
if any one can help fast please do. cause grandpa frank got the fonts to put in his computer also so he can hear his midi files sound good like the big organ. but he needs help installing them. and if they don't work on xp pro it can mess that nice 84 yr. old organ player up and he wont know how to undo it because his computer teck friend died a few months back. so please how can we get these fonts to work in xp pro.

i believe it is 32 bit? could be a 16 bit sound card? because i have to set up the mad plugin for my media player on a 16 bit setting?
here is the driver version for this santa cruz turtle beach card. 5.12.1.4161 don't know if that can tell you anything?
oops thought you wanted the sound card, here is the system i got i can't find what bit it is.
xp pro verson 2002 service pack 3. v.3311
cpu pent 4. 2.40ghz
2.39ghz 768 mb of ram.
it is an old xp home we over installed xp pro on to.
just checked the xp box and it says 2004 on the date for the box i have not found anything for the bit. so it must be the smaller one.

I didn't know that the Turtle Beach cards could play Soundfonts. I always thought you needed to convert a soundfont to DLS format if you wanted to use it with a Turtle Beach card.
Soundfonts work fine with Creative cards, after all, they got the technology from EMU (whom they own).
So, unless you have a way of converting the soundfonts I wouldn't expect them to work with the Turtle Beach. Am I wrong?

it allows for the use of sf2 it just did not show them when first trying to browse to them. but the help file mentioned sound font and when i did the search in it's help i typed soundfont.
maybe they are using the terms as one meaning when they might not be one meaning?
i have no idea what grandpa frank schober has for a sound card can someone here get a hold of him and help him too. it would be better then me relaying it to him. cause you know how things get messed up through the grapevine.
no i don't know how to convert soundfonts to dls? i would just change the file extinstion? and maybe mess up something else by doing that.
i really wanted to use them on this xp pro because it has 5.1 surround sound on it. and it sounds great.
